Acupuncture

Chinese Medicine uses acupuncture, the insertion of very fine needles at specific points on the meridians, to correct the flow of energy to produce a therapeutic effect. Traditional Acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of flow of Qi (energy) through distinct Meridians or pathways that cover the body somewhat like the nerves and blood vessels. Acupuncture allows Qi to flow to the areas where it is deficient and away from where it is excess. In this way, acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body. A western explanation of acupuncture is that it strengthens the immune system by increasing T-cell counts and releases endorphins and neurotransmitters that helps relax the body, improve mood, balance hormones, and calm the nervous system.

Herbal Therapy

Over the past 5000 years, Ancient herbal information was gathered, compiled, formulated, tested and handed down from generation to generation. All herbs are classified according to their energetic qualities, functions, and the different organs, meridians and disharmonies for which they address.

The herbs are FDA approved substances such as plants, flowers, minerals and some animals. When prescribed correctly, Chinese Herbs rarely elicit side effects and have been proven safe and effective during thousands of years of use. Individual herbs are combined together and work synergistically to enhance the desired therapeutic action of the formula. Herbal formulas come in many forms, including herbal teas, pills, powders and tinctures.

Chinese herbal medicine can be used to expedite the healing process, and strengthen and support the body. The herbal formulas have the capacity to address both the symptoms and the underlying root cause of various medical conditions whether acute (such as a cold/flu, sinusitis or allergies) as well as chronic disorder such as (side effects of chemo and radiation therapy, IBS, insomnia, Ulcerative Colitis and many other conditions.)

Cupping

Cupping is a safe technique used in Chinese medicine to stimulate the flow of Qi and Blood throughout the body and meridians. It is used to treat many conditions, such as colds and flu, bronchitis and asthma, skin conditions, muscular pain and spasm. Cupping is primarily used when the Qi, Blood or Phlegm is stuck in regions and needs to be drawn to the surface. Cups are placed at specific areas on the body and a suction is created under the cup using heat. Cups placed on the upper back over the lungs draw the pathogenic factor wind-cold or phlegm (cold/bronchitis) out of the body and prevent the illness from going deeper into the lungs. Therefore effectively treating cough, congestion and tightness in the chest.

Moving or sliding cups is effective for tendonitis, adhesions and chronically tight muscles. Cupping causes the blood to be drawn to the surface. Red marks, circular bruising and swelling can occur particularly the first time cupping is performed. The marks will subside within a few days.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion, a healing therapy using Moxa also called Mugwort, dates back 3000 years. Moxa is used to warm acupuncture points and regions stimulating circulation through the points and protecting against cold and dampness in the body. Moxa is used for pain and deficient conditions such as: Chronic Pain (Shoulder, Knee, Carpel Tunnel), Arthritis, digestive discomfort (Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, IBS) and sexual dysfunction (Low Libido, Impotence).

Scientific research has shown that mugwort stimulates blood-flow in the pelvic region and uterus. Moxibustion in combination with acupuncture is used to turn breech babies and induce labor.

Massage

Massage therapy is an effective adjunct with acupuncture. Muscle tension and soreness develop as lactic acid accumulates in the muscles. Deep pressure massage, releases the lactic acid waste and improves circulation to the muscles. Athletes, or people who workout frequently and intensely, benefit from regular massage. Massage is beneficial for general relaxation and pregnancy as well.

Our experienced massage therapist incorporates swedish, reflexology, deep tissue and shiatsu massage into a 50 minute treatment.
